The work

On October 19, 2024, at the Gaîté Lyrique, as part of ARTE's "Et maintenant?" festival and the carte blanche given to Alain Damasio, a creative and joyful experience took place, blending artificial intelligence and literary creation.

At the heart of this evening: DamasIA, the result of four months of intensive work with Thibaud Frere. To create this avatar, we trained the AI on dozens of interviews with Alain Damasio, allowing it to faithfully reproduce his way of speaking. In parallel, we fed it a corpus composed of his works and literary tastes, giving it the ability not only to write in his style but also to generate original content.

Our creation combines this learning work with an audio and video deepfake of Alain Damasio. As a duo, we developed the entire technical setup.

The event took the form of a collective writing workshop where participants, via a smartphone interface, submitted their proposals in real-time. DamasIA didn't just generate text: it analyzed and commented on the works from different angles (the funniest, the most original, the most distressing, the most romantic, the most spiritual...), offering a genuine critical perspective.

The system also generated live data visualizations representing the analysis of the complete corpus of produced texts.

This experimental project, produced by ARTE, created a unique dialogue between the author, his digital double, and the audience. This evening, orchestrated with the participation of Alain Damasio and Mélanie Fiévet, demonstrates the new creative possibilities offered by the interaction between artificial intelligence and literary creation.
